LOS ANGELES - The family of Ed Thomas accepted the Arthur Ashe
Courage Award at the ESPY's on Wednesday night. The award went to the
Thomas family of Parkersburg, Iowa, for its courage to forgive.
In June 2009, coach Ed Thomas was shot and killed in the high school football team's locker room by Mark Becker, one of his former players. The Thomas family was chosen to receive the award for their ability to forgive the family of Mark Becker, despite the fact their son Mark, murdered Ed Thomas.
Brett Favre presented the award to Thomas' wife, Jan, and sons, Aaron and Todd. "Without our faith I don't think there's any way we could get through this tragedy," Todd Thomas said.
Muhammad Ali, Nalson Mandela, and Pat Tillman are just few of the other recipients of the Ashe Award.
