FACEBOOK IS DEVELOPING a new service that looks like it might be getting set to kick Twitter's arse.
Judging by the screenshots buzzing around the Internet, the service, which is in beta tests with a number of users, is a stripped down version of Facebook and looks a lot like a Twitter feed.Screenshots show the usual sort of profile - typical gittish photo accompanied by a list of 'useful and informative' updates - but in a much cleaner format than your normal Facebook page.We thought people were deserting Facebook for Twitter and its relatively anonymous brevity, so it is possible that this will reverse the trend and send all the twits back to the former. Unless of course someone launches a virtual gadget that beams the meaningless details of your day along with a series of self-indulgent photos directly into any innocent bystander's brain. Not only do the pages look a lot like Twitter but they also remind us of FriendFeed, the firm that Facebook bought yesterday. It's a bit too soon for any real integration to have taken place though, so perhaps there is more yet to come. We considered calling management at Facebook's once mighty competitor MySpace for a comment, but then we remembered that it is August and he is probably on holiday.Facebook tried to buy Twitter last year. We suggest you might draw your own conclusions about that.
