Phil Brown is keeping
his fingers crossed that Anthony Gardner has not suffered a serious
injury after X-rays confirmed the Hull City defender had not broken his
leg.
Gardner was stretchered off in the
final 10 minutes of the Tigers' 3-0 defeat at West Ham United on
Saturday and Brown initially feared the
centre-half had suffered a leg fracture.
X-rays on Sunday showed
that was not the case, but the former Tottenham man is now awaiting a
scan to determine if there is any ankle ligament damage.
If the
tests show there is damage to the ligaments then Gardner may still miss a
large chunk of Hull's battle to stay in the Premier League.
However,
Brown is trying to remain upbeat regarding Gardner's fitness, with the
one-time England cap due to have further scans on Monday.
"The
X-ray is clear so that is some kind of positive," Brown told the Hull
Daily Mail.
"But we will not know the extent of the injury
until the swelling has gone down and we can have a scan.
"There
was a lot of inflammation and until that has cleared up, we will have to
keep our fingers crossed."
