British Actress Accuses Polanski Of Sex Abuse

A British actress claims she was sexually assaulted by Roman Polanski when she was 16, prosecutors in Los Angeles have confirmed.

Charlotte Lewis alleges she was abused by the film director while working on the movie Pirates in Paris in 1982.
LA County district attorney's spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons confirmed the actress met a prosecutor handling Polanski's 33-year-old sex case involving another girl.
Lewis, 42, is being represented by celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred, who also advises at least one of the women who claims to have had an affair with golfer Tiger Woods.
Ms Allred told a news conference in LA that she hopes her client's allegations will have a bearing on sentencing for Polanski, who is under house arrest in Switzerland and is fighting extradition to the US.
Polanski's lawyer Chad Hummel was not immediately available for comment.
The Academy Award-winning director pleaded guilty in 1977 to unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl.
He fled to France in 1978 when the now-deceased judge in the case suggested in private remarks that he would renege on a plea bargain and sentencing agreement.

Polanski was arrested last September when he arrived in Switzerland to receive a lifetime achievement award at a film festival.
The director of Chinatown and Rosemary's Baby remains under house arrest at his chalet in the Swiss resort of Gstaad.
His lawyers are fighting for him to be sentenced in absentia without the need to return to Los Angeles. Swiss authorities have not said when they will rule on the extradition case.
Lewis, who starred in children's TV series Grange Hill, made her movie debut in Pirates.
She later starred alongside Eddie Murphy in The Golden Child and also appeared on the cover of Playboy magazine.
