$8 million iPhone? Apparently someone had enough cash to spend on the lucrative Stuart Hughes-designed remake of the popular device complete with diamonds, spending 5 million pounds, according to the Daily Mail.
The handmade remake contains approximately 500 individual flawless diamonds, totaling over 100 carats.
The back of the phone is plated in rose gold. The Apple logo is formed by 53 diamonds. The Mail reports that Hughes, who is based in Liverpool, was commissioned by two Australian businessmen to create the item.
“It was a fantastic challenge and I am really pleased with the end result—the phones look superb,” he said, according to the Mail.
“Phones are so popular at the moment and this is the ultimate design for one. It was a very exciting project.”
He added that the stones were difficult to find as they “usually have a very long history.”
“It is amazing that someone is prepared to spend £5 million on a phone; I doubt it will get used because it is worth so much money,” he added.
If the item were lost, it would be a “disaster,” he told the Mail.
In 2003, Stuart placed gold plates around a Nokia 8800. Since then, he has been making designs for wealthy customers.
