FLOGGER OF GADGETS Apple is sending out mixed
signals to those thinking of ponying up large sums of cash for the Ipad
3G.
Today the firm updated its online Apple Store with the announcement
that all three variants of the Ipad with quite possibly the most
overpriced 3G radios in the world will now be shipped by 7 May, around
two weeks later than originally announced.
The devices, which come with an astonishing $130 premium over the
already expensive Ipad, are set to reach the hands of eager fanbois by
"late April". The firm was quick to reassure any
disappointed acolytes ready to martyr themselves at the latest delay. It
sent out an email assuring them that their "magical and revolutionary"
Ipad 3G will arrive in late April as originally promised.
This delay, the second announced by the firm in a week, comes as
operators here in Blighty are working out how to make money on the back
of the fruit themed toymaker's latest creation. Orange, O2 and Vodafone
all announced that they will release details of their Ipad pricing plans
in May. After Apple's latest announcement, Orange and O2 were unwilling
to comment on whether this delay to the Ipad 3G will affect their
plans.
The delay has similarities to that of the WiFi only Ipad, which
eventually led to Apple's announcement
that the UK Ipad launch had been put back by a month. That delay was
attributed to "surprisingly strong" sales in the US, but whether that
was actually the case or the same situation will occur for the Ipad 3G
both remain to be seen.
For fanbois who were eager enough to put down their cash early on, it
seems that the delay might not materialise. For Jobs' Mob, its latest
announcement could lead to some still undecided fanbois putting their
money down doubly quick in order to avoid any further delays.
