Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted he was not happy with the boos that greeted Emmanuel Adebayor in the Premier League clash against Manchester City.
Former Gunner Adebayor returned to the Emirates Stadium with City as the two sides played out a dull 0-0 draw.
The most notable incident in the game, apart from a serious injury to Blues goalkeeper Shay Given, was the introduction of Adebayor in the second-half.
With other former Arsenal stars Kolo Toure and Patrick Vieira receiving warm receptions from the North London support, Adebayor was met with a crescendo of boos on his introduction.
The reaction comes after he ran the length of the pitch in the reverse fixture at Eastlands earlier in the season to celebrate a goal in front of the travelling supporters.
Wenger had asked fans not to react with hostility to the former Togo international in his pre-match programme notes, but there was no quelling the anger from the majority of the home support.
When asked what he thought about the boos, Wenger said: "What can I do about that?
"I said before the game that I want everybody to be respected so you know clearly what I think."
The French tactician did concede that the introduction of Adebayor spiced up what was not the best footballing spectacle.
"It made it a bit livelier because our supporters suddenly got lively," he added.
"He (Adebayor) was focused and motivated and sharp and he won some longer balls and that's why suddenly it was a bit livelier.

Defensive

"But even then they (City) didn't commit a lot. They played a lot on the counter-attack and when you can break counter-attacks up there is not a lot of trouble.
"It was an afternoon I must say I'm not used to.
"We created very few chances and Manchester City didn't create anything. They were highly focused on defending well and we could not find the opener.
"And, as long as we couldn't do that, it was a locked game."
The result means Arsenal are almost assured of third place in the league table as City stay fifth as they chase the final UEFA Champions League place.
When asked who out of Tottenham, City and Aston Villa would clinch fourth spot, Wenger remarked: "That's very difficult to predict.
"You would expect the two teams winning their next game and then it will be Man City v Tottenham that will be the decider.
"Man City has a little home advantage but it will be interesting until the end.
"It's difficult to predict. I'm not good enough in predictions to say."
