Hacker fined over Soas student password scam

A computer hacker who broke into the email accounts of hundreds of students has been fined £21,000.
Daniel Woo, 23, a Bulgarian, admitted repeatedly posing as a student at the School of Oriental and African Studies in Bloomsbury, central London.
Police said Woo, of Knightsbridge, took financial data, and fraud later occurred in some accounts.
Southwark Crown Court gave Woo a 36-week suspended jail sentence for crimes under the Misuse of Computers Act.
He was caught installing password-capturing software by computer staff examining network problems.
Detectives then discovered Woo had been posing as a student to gain entry to the university's computer room.
He cracked students' passwords and installed a programme to harvest more passwords.
Woo has been banned from entering any university, college or place of higher education for a year without police consent.
