If Wayne
Rooney was expecting calm after Sunday's storm he would have been
sorely disappointed if he looked at any of Monday's papers.
Day two of the scandal that is sure to run and run has seen
all the tabloids scrambling to print juicy follow-ups to the news broken
by the Sunday Mirror and the News of the World detailing Rooney's
affair with a £1,200-a-night prostitute. 
The Daily Mirror has gone for the most sensationalist line with their 'exclusive' report claiming the Manchester United and England striker told his wife Coleen the affair was "no big deal".
They quote a "family friend" - of course unnamed - as saying: "The most shocking thing was that he told her as if he was delivering the weather forecast.
"He made out that the whole thing was no big deal and it was just boys being boys.
"Coleen never expects him to be Mr Emotional, but he just mumbled an apology as if he'd just spilled a glass of milk. I don't think Wayne understands how appalling his behaviour has been and how he might lose Kai."
Make of that what you will.
Meanwhile the Daily Star claims Rooney could lose £100 million over the affair in lost sponsorship deals and a costly divorce, while The Sun reckons Coleen can expect £10m if she ends the marriage.
They also claim the lady of the night who might have wrecked his marriage - Jenny Thompson - told friends that she "romped with two defenders and performed a sex act on an international striker in the toilets of a Manchester nightclub – for a 'bargain' £75".
Her parents must be so proud.
All the papers are also speculating whether Rooney's form at the World Cup was affected by the scandal; of course the best take on Rooney's predicament comes courtesy of our own Early Doors blog (shameless self-promotion bit over).
Elsewhere, it is being widely reported that John Toshack is set to quit as Wales boss; the Daily Express claims Ryan Giggs will be offered the chance to replace him.
The Express also believes that if Gerard Houllier becomes Aston Villa boss, as expected, he will bring in Phil Thompson as his assistant. Sky's Soccer Saturday may never be the same again... they might even get somebody in who actually tells you what is going on in the game they're watching, as opposed to making random noises.
On Tuesday England face Switzerland, who are coached by former Bayern Munich boss Ottmar Hitzfeld. The legendary coach has said that he was offered the chance to coach Manchester United back in 2002 but turned it down as he couldn't speak English. Are you listening Fabio Capello?
Hitzfeld is quoted in The Daily Telegraph: "I don’t want to go into too many details because it was between myself and Manchester United, but I decided to stay in Germany because, when I am coaching I prefer to express myself in German because this is my mother tongue.
“I didn’t think I would be able to do myself justice if I had to speak to the players in English. I would not be able to get my emotions and feelings across."
Some brief transfer news: Middlesbrough are reportedly interested in Bournemouth defender Jason Pearce, while former England goalkeeper Richard Wright (two caps) is to go on trial at MLS club San Jose Earthquakes. (Mirror)
