Out of all the cracking strikes, ambitious efforts and speculative chances, here's what we (myself, Soccer Editor Brian Straus and Managing Editor Randy Kim) have compiled.

10. Landon Donovan vs. Slovenia

Sure there were more miracle goals to come for the U.S., but the American captain essentially saved the Cup for the Yanks with this near-post emasculation of Slovenian goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.

9. Siphiwe Tshabalala vs. Mexico

Tshabalala scored the first goal of the World Cup, and sent the host nation into a tizzy over their Bafana Bafana. Then he led a team dance.

8. Asamoah Gyan vs. U.S.

Gyan collected the ball off his chest between two defenders, then struck it out of midair and past goalkeeper Tim Howard. The shot sent Ghana -- Africa's last hope -- into the quarterfinal, where Gyan unfortunately undid his legacy by missing a PK that would have put the Black Stars in the semifinals.

7. David Villa vs. Chile

Quite simply, this is a lot harder than David Villa makes it look.

6. Luis Fabiano vs. Ivory Coast

Okay, so Fabiano admitted that the referee missed a handball (ed. note: or two) on this one. Perhaps, like us, the ref simply forgave him because of the sheer brilliance.

5. Luis Suarez vs. South Korea

Luis Suarez will be remembered -- either as villain or martyr -- for his handball against Ghana. But this goal to send Uruguay past South Korea, and into that quarterfinal match wasn't too shabby.

4. Maicon vs. North Korea

The announcers questioned whether Maicon intended this to be a cross, but it sure looks to us like he intended put this one between the goalkeeper and the post. A shot as crafty as it was powerful.

3. Giovanni van Bronckhorst vs. Uruguay

This shot elicited more "Ooohs," Gchats, and text messages than any goal in the tournament. The range and precision are displayed are insane.

2. Diego Forlan vs. Germany

In a tournament that saw many stars disappoint, Diego Forlan -- the Golden Ball winner -- emerged to fill the void. His ability to score from distance was impressive, and this full volley against Germany in the third-place match is stunning for both its technical form and visual brilliance.

1. David Villa vs. Honduras

I mean ...
